HELLO from Nola

Hello!
View from Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop
in the French Quarter
I'm sorry we've been MIA for the past few months. But here's an update and I PROMISE to be better at updating!
So, I've (Heather) moved back to New Orleans and sister (Shawna) is still in Atlanta. So while it's sad to be apart, the good news is we can now bring you reviews from two great culinary cities. And like Atlanta, New Orleans is experiencing a burger boom, so we can test and compare!! Which is beyond exciting for me since burgers are my FAVORITE!!! But burger boom aside, I'm thrilled to be back in New Orleans, a city that loves to eat so much- we have festivals dedicated to it!

Let's talk food for a minute, I have a lot of favorite spots to eat in New Orleans but the Croque Madame et frites:grilled ham and Emmenthaler cheese sandwich and delicious french fries at John Besh's  Luke are not too be missed. I like to accompany  my brunch with the CHAMPAGNE AU PÊCHE:champagne and fresh peach purée. But the coffee is also excellent! Just thinking about the Croque makes my mouth water!

When reviewing New Orleans restaurants I think we will use a beginet scale, for those who asking what's a beignet well it's pastry made from deep-fried dough, much like a doughnut, and sprinkled with confectioner's sugar, or frostings. In other words it's a little piece of heaven right here in New Orleans!

I would rate Luke a solid four out of five beignets.

I'm so glad we finally got to catch up and hope to be back on track! Hope this finds y'all eating well and enjoying the dog days of summer!!! Until next time Bon Appetit y'all!!!

That's FRESH!

Atlanta, GA 30312

I know I know I know...I haven't updated in over a month...unacceptable. And in the interest of full disclosure it's not because we haven't been anywhere or because I've been super busy, nope I've just been lazy. So accept my apologies and know that I'm going to try to do better!!!

So, let's talk LottaFrutta in the Historic Old Fourth Ward. As recommended by Southern Living Shawna ordered the Limonatta Gourmet Fruit Cup: a combo of fresh cut cantaloupe, coconut, cucumber, pineapple, watermelon, mango and papaya topped with fresh lime juice and spicy chile guajillo. And it's true what that sticker in the window says:

While the Limonatta was SUPER FRESH it was a bit strong for my delicate tastebuds (ha ha ha), but Shawna definitely recommends. I opted for a LottaMora Smoothie: Mora (Andean Blackberry), Bannas, Strawberries blended with your choice of Milk or Water. I choose Milk. SO refreshing and unbeliveably well FRESH. The only thing that would've made it better would be the addition of RUM! Seriously, though best smoothie ever!

LottaFrutta was a very friendly neighborhood place.  They have a great menu to choose from and it all looked delish and the best part- yep, it's all FRESH. We give Lotta Frutta four and a half peaches out five. Go get you some!!

Until the next time, Happy Eating Y'all!!!

Taqueria del Sol

Hello fellow foodie friends!

The next step on our fabulous food journey led us to Taqueria Del Sol, we went to the Westside location, just like our friends at Southern Living. We hadn't really spent in anytime in the "Westside" before and let me just it was sorta fab! There's lots of great home furnishing shops, restuarants and a new Anthropologie, what makes it better is it's all walkable! It was a tad chilly on our outing, but we couldn't resist peeking around- so glad we did!!!

Now let's talk Tacos!!! Southern Living suggested items: Fish & Memphis Tacos. Shawna ordered the Fish Tacos: Tilapia dipped in an egg wash, rolled in corn masa and bread crumbs and deep-fried. Served with poblano tartar sauce and pickled jalapeños. At first bite she said okay, but once she got further into the taco- the flavors came together and equaled yummy!  I ordered the Memphis-Chopped smoked pork with a spicy jalapeño coleslaw and tequila BBQ sauce. And felt the same way, at first I didn't see what the fuss was about, but when the flavors all came together, I was happy! Just because one taco didn't seem enough I also ordered the Brisket-Shredded beef brisket with pico de gallo. Simple but good. We enjoyed a trio consisting of salsa, guacamole & cheese dip. All three were delightful!

We enjoyed our tacos on a Saturday at lunch, there was a line out the door. But never fear, the line moves quickly. You go in place order & grab a seat your order will be out in a jif!!! It was interesting mix of people- so the people watching was goood stuff! And the magaritas looked sensational. Next time I'll be getting a pitcher- yea, that's right a pitcher and a DD!!!

All in all we found Taqueria del Sol to be a fun spot with good food. We will defintely make it back that way! Taqueria del Sol lands a solid 3 peaches! Enjoy!!

Until next time, happy eating y'all!!!

Let them eat Cake, well Cupcakes!

El Diablo Cupcake
Never have we been more excited to try a place on the list, as we were to try The Atlanta Cupcake Factory! As recommended by Southern Living, we ordered the El Diablo cupcake (ok so we ordered a 6 pack of assorted cupcakes to savor over the Great Snow of 2011) But the first one we tried was the El Diablo. The El Diablo is a delicious dark chocolate cake that just melts but then it kicks up a notch with cayenne heat! The combination of chocolate and heat are a winning one!!! Definitely treat yourself to the El Diablo!

The cupcake goddess behind the counter was super friendly to the line of customers that was out the door. The gentleman in front of us was there on emergency mission to pick up more Red Velvet cupcakes for his young daughter's birthday, he just did not feel like his wife had provided an adequate stash. After trying the Red Velvet cupcake- I'm not sure there could ever be enough! In addition to the El Diablo & Red Velvet we also tried the chocolate-chocolate, lemon-lemon, sugar cookie/white chocolate with raspberry sauce and coconut-almond. Hey don't judge us we only ate in the name of research!!! Each cupcake was delicious- the cake part was well I hate this word but moist and the icing was to die for. We highly recommend making a trip to the Atlanta Cupcake Factory! 4.5 out of 5 peaches can't be wrong!
